Most conventional Omega-3 supplements pose significant bioavailability and absorption issues. MAG-O3™, a ground-breaking Essential Fatty Acid innovation developed and patented in Quebec/Canada, overcomes these problems by delivering Omega-3 Fatty Acids in a novel monoglyceride form that offers dramatically improved bioavailability and absorption. Discover MAG-O3™ today, and FEEL the difference a highly bioavailable Omega-3 supplement makes.
Health Benefits of Omega-3s
Omega-3 fatty acids play a central role in health and wellness, and supplements are widely used to increase Omega-3 status. Of the omega-3 fatty acids, two have been extensively studied: docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), with a total of over 7,000 scientific papers and 900+ clinical trials to date. These fatty acids have been associated with significant health benefits and are recommended in a range of conditions, including:
- ADHA
- Aging & Longevity
- Bone & Joint Health
- Brain Health & Cognition
- Cardiovascular health (reducing blood pressure, triglycerides, and all-cause mortality)
- Eye/Vision Health
- Inflammation
- Mood Disorders & Anxiety
Newer research points to other exciting applications, such as the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, asthma, eczema, psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, psychiatric conditions, and even some forms of cancer.
To fully reap the health benefits Omega-3s offer, your body has to be able to access, digest, absorb, and use the fatty acids you consume. This is why your choice of Omega-3 supplement is so critical..
Omega-3 Fatty Acids & Bioavailability
Various Omega-3 supplements are available and differ based on their manufacturing, chemical structure, and bioavailability. Most conventional Omega-3 supplements come in one of the below forms :
Triglyceride (TG)
Omega-3 fatty acids found in whole fish are present as natural Triglycerides (TG). Raw anchovy and sardine derived fish oils contain a relative concentration of approximately 18% EPA and 12% DHA in their TG form. By weight, this roughly translates to 16% EPA, or 160 mg/g, and 10% DHA, or 100mg/g – which can by no means be considered therapeutic amounts. This why TGs require further processing in order to increase the concentration of EPA and DHA.
- Better absorbed than EEs
- More stable, longer shelf life
- Low concentration of omega-3 fatty acids
- Must be taken with food – absorption substantially greater with high-fat meals
- Common side effects: heartburn, loose stools, and nosebleedsz
Ethyl Ester (EE)
Ethyl esters are made from natural Triglycerides by replacing the glycerol molecule with ethanol. The resulting lighter fatty acid molecules can then be distilled (molecular distillation) to produce a concentrated form of Omega-3 fish oil. Concentrating fish oils lets companies adjust the concentration of EPA and DHA to produce high-potency, targeted supplements.
High concentrations of Omega-3 fatty acids
Least bioavailable form of omega-3s: 73% - Less bioavailable than the TG form
Less stable: can oxidize up to 33% faster
Must be taken with food – absorption substantially greater with high-fat meals
Commonly cause GI symptoms: upset stomach, fishy burps, bloating, heartburn, etc.
Re-esterified Triglycérides (rTG)
rTG takes the processed, concentrated EE fish oil and chemically turns it back into triglycerides. Typically, rTGs are composed of a majority of TG (60-90%), the remainder being a mixture of diglycerides, EE and a very small amount of monoglycerides.
Improves metabolism and bioavailability versus EE and TG (Better absorbed vs EE and TG because of the presence of small amounts of mono- and di-glyceride)
Commonly causes GI symptoms such as indigestion, heartburn, loose stools, and nausea.
Free Fatty Acids (FFA)
Completely removed during the refining process of fish oils, they are the result of the biological digestion of fish oils (fats) and like the MAG-O3™, is one of the absorbable forms of fatty acids. Quite unstable, FFA are rarely available as a dietary supplement.
No significant difference between the bioavailability and absorption of FFAs and EEs when taken with high-fat meals
Inferior stability ( research has demonstrated that FFA have significant pro-oxidative effects, which accelerates their decomposition).
Unfortunately, each of these conventional forms of Omega-3 supplements comes with its own very significant pros and cons.
Then, there’s MAG-O3™
MAG-O3™ features omega-3 fatty acids in monoglyceride form. It is “pre-digested” and "self-emulsified," meaning that it bypasses digestion altogether so the body does not have to break it down to be absorbed and that it mixes well with the stomach and intestinal fluids which are mostly made of water. The result is no fishy aftertaste or unpleasant GI symptoms, optimal gastrointestinal absorption, and improved health benefits.
MAG-O3™ – The Future of Omega-3 Supplements
MAG-O3™ is a Quebec innovation featuring patented Canadian technology that is revolutionizing the world of Omega-3s by doing away with the considerable bioavailability, absorption, and GI side effects that have long plagued conventional Omega-3 supplements.
Novel MAG-O3™ is made from the highest quality concentrated EE or rTG fish oils, which are either enzymatically esterified (if starting with EEs) or digested (if starting with rTG) into monoglyceride and diglyceride-rich omega-3 fish oil. The enzyme, lipase, used is the same one we humans use to digest fish oils. MAG-03 is subsequently enhanced with non-GMO mixed tocopherols (Vitamin E) to protect the fatty acids and add even more health benefits.
MAG-O3™ provides 30 to 35% Monoglyceride fatty acids, along with Diglycerides, Ethyl Esters, and Triglycerides, which boost bioavailability and absorption even further, as well as multiplies benefits to health. The 30-35% monoglyceride concentration is key to MAG-O3™ 's efficacy because it is the scientifically demonstrated optimal range and the concentration used in all the MAG-O3™ clinical trials. MAG-EPA and MAG-DHA are easily absorbed and metabolized into bioactive metabolites, resulting in 3 and 2.5 times higher plasma concentrations of EPA and DHA.
Bioavailability and absorption aside, high-quality Omega-3 fish oil should be sustainable, pure, and clean and not add to your body’s toxic burden. MAG-O3™ has got you covered here too. MAG-O3™ is Friend of the Sea certified for its sustainable supply chain i.e. fisheries with sustainable fishing practices and manufacturers that promotes environmental conservation. Every single lot (batch) is third-party tested and receives a 5-Star IFOS rating for the optimal purity, quality, and concentration of its MAG-O3™ fish oil — the highest possible rating for fish oils, attesting to the fact it meets the highest standards of purity and quality.
In summary, MAG-O3™ are:
Rich in monoglyceride omega-3 fatty acids.
Clinically proven to be most bioavailable form of omega-3: 3 times more than EE and 2.5 times more than rTG.
Made using a biomimetic and natural enzymatic process
Compatible with stomach and intestinal fluids and therefore does not produce any fishy aftertaste or unpleasant GI symptoms.
Stable
Certified IFOS 5 star.
Certified Friend of the Sea (FOS).
